A gunman’s shooting rampage leaves eight dead, including himself.

The tragedy unfolded in a small Ohio township, and police and residents are still trying to put the pieces together.

ANCHOR, CNN: “Police say the gunman shot his girlfriend first, then ran into a house next door, killed five people there, chased two others through homes and backyards, shooting the whole time. The man died in a police shootout.”

Officials say they don’t know why the -- unnamed gunman went on the spree, but they believe it started with a domestic dispute or argument.

Local reports say an 11-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl were among those killed.

As of Monday morning, one gunshot victim remained in a local hospital in critical condition. (Video: WKYC)

Police have not released the names of the victims as they attempt to contact kin.

But local news reports put together a list based on community reports.

And at a vigil held for the victims -- one resident says...

“It’s such a small neighborhood. We all know one another so well. There are just no words to describe. It’s so hard to believe this happened in this small town.” (Akron Beacon Journal)

As Cleveland’s WOIO reports -- it’ll be awhile before Copley Township -- population 14,000 -- gets answers about this massacre.

TIFFANI TUCKER, WOIO: “Four separate locations. The crime so intense and so vast that investigators had to call in several agencies for help. Akron, Summit County, along with the medical examiner’s office, and the state bureau of criminal investigations. The chief tells us, even with the big guns stepping in, it is a lot of work that will take time.”
