The people have spoken. Hasbro has announced that, after a fan vote, it will put a new Monopoly token on the game’s board and remove one. All we have to say is: meow.

That’s right -- a kitty cat is the winner, beating out a toy robot, diamond ring, helicopter and guitar.

The cat won in a fan vote on the game’s Facebook page. But a sadder, simultaneous voting contest was going on too -- to eliminate a token from the classic, but cutthroat, game. Who’s been kicked off after being on the board since the 1930s?

The iron. It’s just not hot anymore.

Things turned sour at the end for the iron...

...it had been in a dead heat with the wheelbarrow and the shoe.

USAToday has last words from a spokesperson.

"While we're a bit sad to see the iron go, the cat token is a fantastic choice by the fans and we have no doubt it will become just as iconic as the original tokens."

So, not so much last words as -- do not pass go, iron. Do not collect $200.

The contest was dubbed Monopoly’s Save Your Token campaign -- fans voted for which tokens to keep in play starting in early January.

The fan favorite? The Scottie Dog. It was saved with a majority 29 percent of the vote.

Apparently for Monopoly fans -- it’s reigning cats and dogs. And if you want the cat piece...

You can pre-order a limited edition of the game featuring the feline on Target’s website.

The game boasts all five possible new tokens -- and still has the iron. But it will be gone soon...

The cat will officially join every edition of the game, along with all the other classic pieces, starting in summer.
