Davy Jones of ‘60s rock group ‘The Monkees’ has died. KOLD reports.

“According to TMZ, Davy Jones died from a heart attack this morning. Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and four daughters from previous marriages. He was 66 years old.”

Jones was born in the UK and joined The Monkees in 1965. KGO has the history.

“The band was initially cast for a television show. They became heartthrobs and had a number of hits, including ‘Daydream Believer’ and ‘Last Train to Clarksville.’”

And KPHO reports on Jones’ long career, which continued up until his death.

“Jones was a child actor before being cast as a member of ‘The Monkees’ in 1965. He continued his singing career with and without the Monkees and just performed 10 nights ago in Oklahoma.”

A similar group to the Monkees — The Beach Boys — reunited at this year’s Grammys. As KUSA reports, such a plan was in place for the Monkees.

“Once the Monkees went off the air, the group disbanded. ... There was talk of a possible Monkees reunion tour with all of the original band members this year.”

Tributes are already pouring in. TIME writes.

“He was the cute one. The little one. The one who got starry-eyed in the sight of a pretty girl and led his fellow Monkees on romp after romp. Davy Jones, [was] in many ways the most memorable Monkee …”

And EW has a statement from bandmate Peter Tork …

“It is with great sadness that I reflect on the sudden passing of my long-time friend and fellow-adventurer, David Jones. His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always.”
