People across the nation held a moment of silence Friday morning to honor the victims of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School. HLN has more.

“Twenty students and seven adults died a week ago today. Many churches rang bells. Some people are wearing green and white, that’s the colors of Sandy Hook Elementary School. Some websites went dark for a minute, and others stop using social media … ” 

According to CNN, “Governors in at least 28 states called for a moment of silence Friday morning. In some of those states, governors called for bells to toll for the 26 victims at the elementary school.” 

Connecticut was one of those states. According to CBS News, at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning …

“ … exactly a week since Adam Lanza entered the school - bell towers across Connecticut chimed 26 times to honor each of the victims.” 

ABC News notes President Barack Obama also took part in the moment of silence, but did so privately at the White House.

The White House tweeted Friday morning“20 beautiful children & 6 remarkable adults. Together, we will carry on & make our country worthy of their memory. -bo #MomentForSandyHookThe “bo” standing for President Obama’s initials.
