New developments in the case of missing Missouri baby Lisa Irwin. A day after police claim the parents stopped cooperating, Jeremy Irwin and Deborah Bradley refute that -- on NBC’s Today.
Jeremy: “We just want to make sure that we tell everybody that we’re...ya know...we’re still cooperating. We’re still talking with police. We’re doing everything we can to try and find Lisa and bring her back home.”
A day before the parents’ public appearance-- police held a press conference saying the exact opposite. Here’s Kansas City Police Captain Steve Young on KMBC.
Steve: “Earlier the mother and father decided to quit cooperating with police, but our door is always open.... hey ya know...were maybe one of our best bets to help find the child...so yeah...our doors open, and it doesn’t help the investigation.”
On Monday night, Jeremy Irwin says he came home from an overnight shift to find his daughter missing. Since then, the parents say the mother has been treated as the primary suspect. Fox News explains why.
“Our local affiliate is now reporting that law enforcement says that mother, Debbi, failed miserably that lie detector test and started sweating, this is according to the police, when they informed her of it.”
Some reports indicate police have tried playing one parent against the other. An MSNBC analyst spoke with a detective about why police are questioning the parents so harshly.
“They are going to use every tactic in this case. I asked about sex offenders, surveillance. I asked all kinds of questions. He said everything you’re asking me we’ve done times three, and they’ll continue to do that, along with the searches, along with questioning family members, questioning friends, figuring out you know, the cell phones.”
In response to the parents’ interview with NBC, police say they are “glad to hear” the parents are willing to cooperate. I’m Jonathan Ketz for Newsy. Multiple sources. The real story.
