Alex Rodriguez and Shaquille (Sha-keel) O’Neal have done it-- and now, so has Michael Vick.

The Eagles’ QB is in the group of elite athletes who have received multiple 100 million dollar contracts.  Derrin Horton on NFL.com reports on the terms of the contract.

“Comeback story. Michael Vick added another chapter Monday night. Quarterback agreeing to a six year 100 million dollar contract with the Philidelphia Eagles. The deal guarantees Vick 36 million dollars.”

While 100 million dollars sounds like a good amount of money, Vick won’t be able to keep much of it because he filed for bankruptcy in 2008.  Dashelle Bennet of Business Insider writes

“Add in state, local, and federal taxes and that means more than two-thirds of Vick's new contract is already spoken for.  That would make the take home pay on his "$100 million" deal (assuming he only collects the guaranteed portion) closer to $12-13 million.”

That doesn’t take away from Vick’s comeback story.  This is the same guy just two years removed from prison and originally was destined to be a small part of the Eagles offense.  Now, again, he’s a franchise quarterback.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer says Vick is a changed man. more devoted to becoming the leader for his team -- and that could be why the Eagles were willing to shell out the big bucks.

“He’ll sit there with the offensive line coach, he’ll sit there with the new defensive coordinator Juan Castillo and look at different defensive fronts, he’ll sit with the secondary coach and just figure out different coverages and that’s not something Michael Vick did in the past.  Michael Vick is an overall quarterback. He’s continuing to grow and grow, and as good as he was last year, I think his best years are ahead of him.”

While some questioned the new contract, Vick’s former Philadelphia teammates showed their support on Twitter.

Former fullback Leonard Weaver Tweets...

“Wow, I just saw that my dude MIke Vick got a new contract, for 100 million and he deserves every bit of it. Congrats bro!!!!”

And Longtime placekicker David Akers wrote

Congrats to @MikeVickfor the well deserved contract. Love seein people take advantage of 2nd chance

Vick was once the NFL’s highest paid player before he went to prison.  Now, the only two quarterbacks who make more than Vick are Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. HLN’s News Nation shows us - the majority of people it polled still aren’t convinced Vick deserves this contract.

“We have a facebook poll. Interesting, bottom line, 60% of people, 59 there, they think a deal like this is shameful. Does that surprise you, that still 60% do not forgive?

I think we will see $100 million and they freak out.  They see $100 million, and they hear dog fighting charges and they say no, that can't happen.”

But it has happened.  Michael Vick gets a second chance - a big one.  Robert Dougherty, a yahoo contributor and Eagles fan, is unsure of the contract based on his on field performance.

“Since Vick hasn't actually won a Super Bowl yet, has a risky style of play and an even riskier offensive line protecting him, the Eagles are really taking a $100 million gamble.”
