Multiple attacks in the Norwegian capital of Oslo and a nearby island have left almost 100 people dead. The media initially pointed fingers at groups like Al Qaeda or the Taliban -- but as the situation developed, the focus changed - to one man.

“First suspicion fell on Islamic terrorist. But it is clear. One man was behind this destruction. A Norwegian named Anders Breivik. Police arrested him at that youth camp. The region official says his attack has more in common with the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing than with 9/11.”

The BBC reports -- in their investigation, officials determined Breivik, the suspect in the shooting that killed at least 87 at a summer camp organized by the Labor Party, holds right-wing anti-Muslim views.

“On the Facebook page attributed to him, he describes himself as a Christian and a conservative. In a post an online forum, a user named Anders Breivik claims there is not one country where Muslims have peacefully lived with non-Muslims, stating that instead it has had ‘catastrophic consequences’ for non-Muslims.”

Reports say Breivik bought six tons of fertilizer from a farmer’s supply dealer in May.
New York Daily News
reports, this quote- “boyishly handsome” alleged killer may have been stocking chemicals to build bombs for years.

“Breivik may have used a front company, Breivik Geofarm, he founded in 2009 as an excuse to legally stockpile large quantities of fertilizer and other chemicals which he could have used to build the bombs, according to Norwegian news stations.”

However, some say -- it seems impossible for one person both plan and carry out such huge attacks. CNN reports, the police are still investigating.

“They are not ruling out the possibility. He could have had other people helping him. But for now he is the only suspect they have in custody. They say the two events are related, that he would be charged both for the shooting on the Utoya Island and for the bombing in Oslo.”

The police say though the suspect held right-wing views, he is not linked with hardcore extremists and had no criminal record expect for some minor offenses.
