Not even two full months have passed since her Ames Straw Poll win -- and the headlines are already declaring the death of Michele Bachmann’s Oval Office campaign.
There are questions about her ability to raise funds...
And talk of a campaign on “fumes” – and, more pointedly, reports the operation is “sputtering” in the very state she announced her candidacy.
Not to mention -- the polls aren’t boding well for her either. The Twin Cities’ KMSP has that.
“Mitt Romney’s still on top with 23-percent. Perry is polling at 19, with Cain behind him at 17 percent. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann continues her slide, placing seventh with just three percent.”
To that -- the Bachmann camp has a message -- newly released Monday. The theme: “Don’t Settle.”
"We see that our nation is on the ropes right now — on the ropes economically, with very high employment. Our housing values are down."
Wait a minute -- did she just say the U.S. economy is on the ropes because of very high EMployment? Clearly -- she meant to say high UNemployment. Business Insider’s Zeke Miller writes -- that’s why Bachmann’s slipping in the polls of late.
“With fundraising and support lagging — and after the departure of much of her political team — Bachmann has resorted to releasing poorly produced web videos to reach out to the public.”
But don’t count her out just yet. The LA Times’ Seema Mehta notes -- Bachmann’s taking the criticism to heart -- and making changes.
Supporters used to complain the Minnesota congresswoman would show up late to campaign events -- and reporters bemoaned her short sessions with the media.
Now, Mehta writes, “Although not punctual, she's not as late as she used to be. She takes more questions; inside a chilly meat locker in Des Moines recently, she answered questions until reporters ran out of them.”
