Maria Shriver has decided to terminate her 25 year marriage to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
She filed the official divorce paperwork Friday, ABC has more.

“With millions of assets and four children between them, the Kennedy heir is pulling out of her marriage to the man known as the the Govern-ator, citing irreconcilable differences.”

The news probably isn’t much of a surprise -- after news a story broke in May that Arnold had had an affair -- and fathered a child -- with a housemaid.
But how much will this trip to splits-ville cost?
Here’s ITN’s Showbiz 411.

““It could lead to a mammoth settlement because they don’t have a prenuptial agreement - that means all of Arnold’s and Maria’s earnings over the past  25 years will be divided 50/50. In another blow for Arnie, Maria wants him to pay for all of the lawyer fees.”

TMZ reports -- Arnie Schwarzenegger might have the higher worth, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be coughing up all the cash.

“Arnold's worth is estimated at $300 million, while Maria's is around $100 million.  Since the couple has been married for a quarter century and it's probably impossible to separate what they each had before they tied the knot.”

Shriver opted to seek counsel from the same high-profile attorney who helped popstar Britney Spears divorce Kevin Federline.
E online reports...

“Shriver enlisted the services of top-flight L.A. divorce attorney Laura Wasser, an accomplice to many a celebrity split over the years, while Schwarzenegger hired the similarly reputable Robert Kaufman.”

And finally - what about the kids?
Los Angeles Times has that detail.

“The petition requests that Schwarzenegger and Shriver share joint physical and legal custody of their two minor sons, ages 17 and 13.”

According to reports -- this could be one of the largest divorce settlements in entertainment history.
