Homer: “This is the craziest and you’re doing it!”
Marge: “I can’t back out. This is for a cause that is bigger than I am.”

Marge Simpson, the iconic blue-beehived mother of Bart and Lisa, is making it on the cover of Playboy Magazine this November. Media sources have mixed reactions to the family cartoon’s stunt on the men’s magazine. We bring you perspectives from ABC News, Zap2it, WCCO, NECN and Entertainment Weekly.

A reporter from ABC News says whether it's right or wrong, it’s popular. Marge Simpson is now one of the top Google searches.

“Also rising, Marge Simpson. Playboy has had everyone from Jerry Seinfield to the girls of Hooters on its cover. And now, the cartoon matriarch of the Simpsons family, Marge. There will be a three-page pictorial on the new issue of Playboy. But Marge will not bare all. The magazine says there will only be implied nudity, which I guess is what that cover picture is supposed to be. What will Homer say?”

Well, we’re not sure what Homer would say, but a writer for Zap2it says Marge on Playboy is just not right.

“Yes, the blue-haired matriarch of Springfield has revealed a bit more of that yellow skin than we've ever seen before for an alluring pose that makes us feel, well, kind of disturbed…We love Marge, but sexualizing her? That just seems wrong somehow.”

But anchors on WCCO say it’s all in the name of fun.

“Marge Simpson is highlighted on the iconic magazine’s cover next month. She is the first cartoon character ever to do so. Playboy says it’s one of the ways to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary, and it will include a story and a three-page pictorial of the blue-beehived mum.”

A reporter on NECN says it’s more about business than pleasure.

“The man’s magazine has seen subscriptions slip since 2006. It’s looking to attract a younger audience with their November issue.”

But a writer for Entertainment Weekly thinks the venture won’t pay.

“Playboy will always live and die by its naked ladies, and I’m not sure a cartoon stunt can change the fact that Playboy’s airbrushed centerfold spreads have been supplanted by the Internet’s ability to offer every flavor of naked lady known to man.”

So, do you think Marge Simpson going on the cover of Playboy is a good idea?
