Native Australian Matt Lockley says during his flight to Indonesia he couldn't tell the difference between the bathroom door and the cockpit, which led to a hijack scare for the pilots.
"This was a huge misunderstanding. I had a panic attack, and I just wanted to use the toilet, and I made an accident by knocking on the cockpit door."
According to the Australian news outlet ABC, Lockley told police he was having hallucinations that someone followed him onto the plane and wanted to steal his bag. And while cabin crew said Lockley appeared to be drunk, he says he only consumed painkillers and Coca-Cola during the flight.
Lockley reportedly banged on the cockpit door aggressively, prompting the airline pilots to assume there was an attempted hijacking. In response, the Indonesian airport Lockley was flying into was temporarily shut down. (Via ABC, Sky News)
Despite all the trouble the incident might have caused, it seems Lockley will be flying out out of Indonesia without any criminal charges.
A Bali policeman said, "Regarding the legal process, it will be conducted in Australia because what he did in that plane was within a plane registered in Australia." (Via News.com.au)
In another strange twist, Lockley says he flew to Bali, Indonesia to look for his wife whom he hasn't seen in weeks — thus the reason for his stress.
