Candice AvilesGoogle Glass users, beware: An Ohio man wearing the device claims he was thrown out of a movie theater and interrogated by the Department of Homeland Security because authorities thought he was illegally filming.
The man, who remained anonymous, shared his side of the story on The Gadgeteer. He says on Jan. 18, he went to see a movie with his wife at an AMC theater at the Easton mall in Columbus, Ohio.
He said he's worn Glass to the theater before and turned them off but kept wearing them because they're also his prescription lenses. (Via Google)
But this time, he says about an hour into the film, an officer escorted him and his wife out of the movie and questioned them for more than an hour.
After plugging the device in to check what was saved on it, the officials finally let him go with a few free movie passes and no apology. (Via The Gadgeteer)
An AMC spokesperson told the Consumerist the company takes movie theft seriously. "While we're huge fans of technology and innovation, wearing a device that has the capability to record video is not appropriate at the movie theatre."
A writer for the Cleveland Leader argues the moral of the story is for Google Glass owners to think carefully about where they wear the device, but a writer for Business Insider says law enforcement has some catching up to do.
"It also shows how feeble law enforcement's knowledge of the new device is, too — it took them an hour before they figured out how to download the device's content."
For those of you lucky enough to own Google Glass, Mashable suggests a few other places you might not want to wear them, such as casinos, bars, strip clubs and well, pretty much anyplace where recording could land you in hot water.
