FlightAware shows the more than 2,700-mile path the flight was taking to its destination. The plane was supposed to land around 5:30 Friday evening.
Jon Ostrower, an aerospace and Boeing beat reporter for The Wall Street Journal, tweeted that the air corridor between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing is busy for flights in Southeast and East Asia. He added that the 777 has only had two prior "hull losses," which are aviation accidents in which the aircraft is unsalvageable. (Via Twitter / @jonostrower)
