America’s favorite Material Girl might hit the field to perform the Super Bowl XLVI (46) halftime show.
Key word there -- “might”.
All sources tie back to one article from SB Nation.

The piece that started the buzz says sources close to the event gave out the tip.  But the NFL declined to comment.

And Madonna’s rep said there’s nothing to confirm at this point.
So will viewers of the 46th bowl really get to sing along to “Like a Virgin”? Some are skeptical.

Courtney Hazlett with the Today show says:

“Not wanting to confirm until the ultimate last minute might be a wise move on everyone's part: Madonna has twice before (Super Bowls XXXIII and XXXV) been reportedly close to performing, only to have her appearance fall through at the last minute.

Others say a little “Papa Don’t Preach” for halftime makes sense. Entertainment Weekly notes a trend...

“It certainly would be in keeping with Super Bowl halftime tradition of the past few years...iconic artists still beloved, but also well past their prime chart-topping days. (We’ll just agree to forget the Black Eyed Peas TRON-ification of the Super Bowl XLV halftime.)"

But not everyone is mad for Madonna to perform at half. A blogger for Yahoo Sports writes:

“People of my ilk will wring their hands at the selection -- she's too old, she's not relevant, her arms in high definition could be more offensive than Janet Jackson's left breast -- but who do they expect to perform for 100 million people?”

You can catch the Super Bowl and “maybe” Madonna live from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy February 5th on NBC.
