Roses are red, violets are blue, give her hydrangeas, and she'll loathe you. Lyrics to Madonna’s latest single. Ok... just kidding...but...this is what she told a fan.
“...princess, thank you so much.”
“Thank you, thank you... I absolutely loathe hydrangeas, he obviously doesn’t know that”
Tell us how you “REALLY” feel, Madonna!
The celeb made the comment during the Venice Film Festival, not realizing her mic was still on...and the not so modest remark sparked lots of attention... and we’re not talking the good kind...
CNN compared her “tude” to one scary woman...
“Her attitude was similar to that of the hoighty toity editor in the Devil Wears Prada... Do I smell Freesias? Do I smell hydrangea? No, I, I specifically told them... If I see freesias anywhere I am going to be very disappointed.”
Since the botanical botch, Madonna’s back from the wilderness, releasing this silent video response on her website.
“You have no idea how many nights I have lost thinking how I hurt you.... If I could take back my words, I would, but I can’t, so what am I left with? I’m left with the fact that I still hate hydrangeas and I will always hate them! It’s a free country, so f**k you, I like roses!”
So -- not exactly an apology. But a Phoenix KNXV reporter says -- what does she need to apologize for in the first place?
“She’s a super duper star, people hand her stuff all the time at things like this, she doesn’t have to like everything that a stranger gives her.”
But the Today Show’s Hoda & Kathie Lee say it’s not about Madonna’s flower preferences -- it’s about how she treated the fan.
“That seemed totally ungracious to people and that’s what bothered them, it’s not about liking or not liking the hydrangeas.”
A Washington Post Blogger says a little sympathy for the poor fan wouldn’t hurt...
“Okay Madonna, we get it, you’re not sorry for disliking hydrangeas. But couldn’t you express a teensy bit of sorrow to the fan at the Venice Film Festival who gave one to you with clearly the best intentions?”
Best intentions?
A spinner.com blogger says the “innocent fan” wasn’t so innocent.
“Turns out, that it wasn’t a careless fan, but a Belgian television prankster personality who had studied Madonna’s interviews and presented the unwanted gift on purpose, fully aware of Madonna’s allergy to the puffy-headed plants.”
