Lindsay Lohan channeled Marilyn Monroe for ‘Playboy,’ and now she might play another icon on screen. Here’s HLN.
ROBIN MEADE: “Could Lindsay Lohan be up for the role of Elizabeth Taylor? Reports do say she’s in early talks to play the late Taylor in an upcoming Lifetime movie about her on-again, off-again romance with Richard Burton. Taylor died last year at the age of 79. So far, there is no word from Lohan’s camp about the possible movie.”
The Lifetime movie, called ‘’Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story,’ has promise -- it’s by the same screenwriter who wrote HBO’s award-winning ‘Temple Grandin.’ But the question media are asking is -- can the 25-year-old Lohan do the role justice? She was critically praised for 2004’s ‘Mean Girls,’ but her acting career since has been sporadic at best. As E! News puts it …
“ … such a gig could very well be what the 25-year-old needs to boost a career that has seen better days.”
Access Hollywood reports Liz Taylor fans are against the idea of Lohan, but the anchors say she’s got the talent for the part.
“The message boards are blowing up -- sacrilege in a way, but if you really think about it -it’s good. Why not? She’s a good actress, Lindsay Lohan, and she’s back on track -- seems to be.”
“We’re all for it. I’m all for it.”
And Entertainment Weekly points out the similarities -- and differences -- between the two.
“It wouldn’t be a massive stretch for Lohan to play Taylor. Like the late actress … Lohan grew up in spotlight. She began her career at age 3 … But Lohan … never won an Oscar ... She’s no philanthropist, and she’s yet to amass multiple husbands, much less an enviable collection of magnificent baubles …”
But, on the whole -- media seemed to support the idea. Perez Hilton sums it up.
“True, Liz didn't get into nearly as much trouble as LiLo has by her age, but both of these ladies know a little something about being infamous! … Despite the stigma of doing a Lifetime movie before turning 45 … If Lindsay really worked hard at this, we can imagine many more doors opening for her.”
