When it comes to TV it looks like LG is trying to steal the show. After announcing it would be unveiling the world’s largest OLED TV at next month’s CES 2012, the company trumped itself -- announcing another massive high tech telly. The Verge says LG has...
“...announced that it will be showing off an 84-inch ‘ultra-definition’ television at the show with a 3840 x 2160 screen resolution, 3D capability, and all of LG's Smart TV bells and whistles — including a library of 1,200 apps and its voice-controlled Magic Remote.”
Perhaps the highlight of the new tube? Its huge resolution. Called UD or 4K, and composed of 8-million pixels, TechCrunch says it dwarfs its HD competition.
“To put things into perspective: 4K resolution, which LG calls ‘Ultra Definition’, is four times the resolution of full HD.”
But the flashy acronyms don’t stop there. Gizmodo reports that the TV’s 3D functionality, which only requires the kind of non-battery powered glasses you would get at the movie theater, will be fully customizable.
“You’ll also get a 3D Depth Control slider, letting viewers fiddle with the perceived depth of the three-dimensional effect, so it can be adapted to best suit their eyes and brains.”
And watch out Apple, according to CNET you might be able to use more than just your eyes and brains with this not-so-small screen.
“LG also claims the set will be controlled by voice recognition, much like Apple's much-rumoured first TV. Though we'll have to wait for a hands-on to see how much you can control by speaking.”
Both the OLED and 4K TV will be debuted at January’s 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. LG is yet to reveal prices on either device.
