Lady Gaga is taking her campaign against bullying to a bigger stage. Here’s HLN.
“A camera spotted Lady Gaga leaving the White House yesterday. President Obama wasn't there, but the pop singer met with administration officials to talk about an anti-bullying campaign.”
Gaga started her campaign after one of her gay teenage fans committed suicide after reportedly being bullied at school.(Video from ABC)
MSNBC says the Mother Monster is using the glow of her spotlight for good.
“This is a central concern of Gaga’s career. She talks about personal liberation, being who you want to be. She is constantly lecturing at gay pride rallies. You see, gay rights rally she showed there. … She comes from the old New York lower east side inspired by the drag community there, gay community there as well as Elton john, Grace Jones, Madonna. So these concerns are very close to her heart. ”
And Gaga’s visit to Pennsylvania Avenue seems to have made an impression on Obama’s team--Senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, who met Gaga, said in the White House blog...
“Lady Gaga has described this cause as a personal one – she has said that as a child, she was often picked on for being different. I am deeply moved by the way she has used her story, and her success, to inspire young people...”
Yes, her story.
The “Born This Way” singer says this is personal for her.
In May, she spoke candidly about bullying during an MTV special ‘Lady Gaga: Inside On the Outside.’
“The boys picked me up, and threw me through the trash can, on the street, on corner of the block while all the girls from the school were leaving and could see me in the trash. It didn't sink in with me how bullying affected me until later in my life. ”
To which, one blogger says -- boo hoo. Big Hollywood says, maybe Gaga should stick to her on-stage performing.
“... what on Earth is Lady Gaga, whose main talent is being just outrageous enough to cut through the pop culture haze, doing mingling with serious minds on this issue? The singer confessed she was once bullied, but so have plenty of other people.… that hardly makes her the kind of expert who can illuminate minds on the matter.”
But a blogger for San Fransisco Weekly says -- Gaga actually has the power to make a change. And she’s helping.
“...never back down, Lady Gaga. Never stop fighting the good fight. Because at this moment in time, we feel like whatever team you're on is the one that's going to win.”
