The Maybach, with its nearly-400,000-dollar price tag, might best be seen pulling up to a luxury hotel in France while toting around posh celebrities.
But for Kanye West and Jay-Z, it’s their newest toy.

Here’s a clip from “Otis”, a video for their lead track from Watch the Throne.

You saw it -- doors ripped-off, scrap metal around the wheels, the roof inverted to the back of the car and -- of course, spitting flames.
According to MTV, watching the the dynamic duo destroy the expensive vehicle may make your teeth grind -- but it’s pretty typical for them.

Yes, tearing apart a car that costs at least $300,000 is a gaudy display — even more so after considering the current economic crisis the U.S. is facing... Ultimately, the song's lyrics, which Kanye described as both ‘luxury rap’ and ‘sophisticated ignorance’ in his second verse, is just a reflection of the duo's reality.

And others are saying -- no press is bad press -- for Maybach. The Wall Street Journal explains.

Typically the idea of taking cutting torches grinding discs and reciprocating saws to a car that costs close to $400,000 would be sacrilege. But for the Maybach, which has never lived up to the hype surrounding its launch for the 2004 model year, the high-profile exposure could only help.”

But while some have strong opinions about Spike Jonze’s direction of the video, the basis is simple -- two rappers having fun in the luxe life. Here’s LA Weekly:

While it's pleasing to see Jay and 'Ye crack smiles, it's not exactly the most taxing of the director's treatments -- it's certainly not Jonze in Bjork mode, for instance. But, then, that's likely the point: To smack home the idea that when you're a member of the ultra-rich rap club, you spend your idle mornings racing souped-up sports cars around Kanye's backyard...”

Even more positive press for ‘Ye, Jay -- and for Maybach -- the dynamic duo plans to auction off the souped-up ride. Proceeds will help fund relief efforts for the drought in East Africa
