Bieber Fever seemed to sweep over the crowd at the American Music Awards Sunday evening. WRAL explains...

“The teen singer dominated the American Music Awards last night. Bieber’s win included the show's top award, artist of the year. The 18-year-old also won favorite pop rock album for ‘Believe’ and male artist.”

While many Beliebers awaited the latest news about Beiber’s on-and-off-again relationship with Selena Gomez — E! Online gave props to the pop star for bringing the love of his life — his mom. After winning Artist of the Year, Beiber took his mom, Pattie Mallette on stage to thank her.

“I can’t even think. I mean I am just so blown away right now. I just want to thank you for always believing in me. I want to thank just everyone.”

Nicki Minaj also walked away with her hands full. She ended the night with two honors, including favorite rap/hip hop artist and favorite rap/hip hop album. Here’s her reaction.

"Man, I been did dat. Man, I been popped out."

Taylor Swift was also chosen as the favorite country music female artist. This is her 11th AMA trophy. On Twitter she wrote

Thank you so much for the AMA! You're unreal. I went straight from the awards to a night video shoot. Long day but so worth it.

CNN noted a major absence from this year’s awards — the show’s originator, Dick Clark.

Known for being “America’s oldest teenager” Clark died in April at the age of 82. Clark was remembered in a musical tribute performed by Stevie Wonder. According to host Ryan Seacrest...


"This show, on its 40th anniversary, still reflects Dick's original vision. Bring the top artists on the planet together on an equal stage and then let the music speak for itself."
