An epidemic called “Bieber Fever” has now affected two billion... viewers on YouTube, according to GossipCop. Justin Bieber, the 17-year-old singer, broke the YouTube record on Monday.
According to FameCount, Bieber has had 95 million views on his YouTube account just this month. Bieber beat Lady Gaga in the race to two billion, after she became the first person with one billion viewers in October 2010.
So are “Beliebers” more devoted fans than Gaga’s “Little Monsters?” MTV says, Bieber still trails Gaga in overall online presence.
“…Mother Monster still holds a sizable lead over Bieber in total Facebook fans (44 million to 37 million) and Twitter followers (15 million to nearly 14 million). Both Bieber and Gaga trail Eminem and Rihanna in terms of overall Facebook fans: Em counts 48 million fans, while RiRi has 46 million.”
A blogger for The Imperfect Parent isn’t surprised at Bieber’s accomplishment and says it just proves that he keeps moving up the social ladder.
“Not to be outdone by a chick who wears a meat dress for special occasions, something Bieber described as ‘weird’, Bieber has outdone himself and showed who is master of his domain.”
Unlike Gaga, the heartthrob’s career started on YouTube. He first posted videos of himself singing when he was 12. And The Huffington Post says, his story just keeps getting better.
“The videos were discovered by a talent scout, Bieber was signed to Usher's record label, and four years later he's so famous that a lock from his formerly floppy hair sold for over $40,000 on eBay earlier this year.”
A blogger for CinemaBlend commends Bieber for his success, even though he’s not the singer’s biggest fan.
“It’s moments like this that make me realize how different my own viewing habits are from the rest of the world’s...Still, as teenage pop stars go, Justin Bieber far surpasses his counterparts; so, I don’t begrudge his success at all. I hope he eventually hits ten billion.”
10 billion might be a little far-fetched, but Bieber’s new Christmas album was released Tuesday and was number eight on iTunes’ Top Albums that same day. So “never say never.”
