“We’ve made some life changing decisions.  Decisions that will affect every member of our family.  Ones that we hope will bring each of us some peace.”

“They’ve been on the cover of every single tabloid for the last 2 months.  The rumors of infidelity are rampant.  Apparently John hooked up with a 23-year-old 3rd grade teacher.  Apparently Kate has been going out with her bodyguard.

The media are having a field day with the reality television show John and Kate plus 8. Rumors are circulating that the couple will be announcing a divorce tonight on their highly promoted episode “John and Kate: The announcement”

But what should viewers really expect Monday night?  FOX News and CNN take opposing positions:

“I predict tomorrow night, big ratings and they could drag this story line out for some time.  Well if its big ratings it’s going to be something different because lately the ratings have been way down to about 3 million from 9 million.”

“The big announcement is there is no announcement.  They are going to air a special with that catches people up with what’s happening today.  When people first tuned into the show they thought they were going to see what’s happening in the tabloids, but it wasn’t.  Now what we are going to see is actually what’s happening.”

“Radar online says its official the dueling duo are divorcing.  The website reports that the marriage is over. Caput. Fino.  It says Jon will be filing divorce papers next week.

Yeah I think this is pretty obvious to anyone who watches the show.  A family member said they split up 6 months ago.”

So are these family issues a result of being on a reality tv show? Thewrap.com reports other ill effects- so far 11 former reality tv show participants have committed suicide- many faced social backlash.  CNN’s Larry King has a perspective from the founder of thewrap.com

“Remember they are not only on the show they are being subject to the whole landscape of media that are out there and especially the Internet which can be very vicious. So you’re having feedback from people. They left suicide notes in some cases that said ‘I’m getting 20 hate mails a day. I can’t stand it.”
