U.S. Senator John Kerry is the new favorite to become secretary of state after U.S. ambassador to the United Nations after Susan Rice withdrew her name from consideration. NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell told Chris Matthews ...

“Barring something completely unforeseen, I think John Kerry is going to be nominated, and I cannot imagine him not being confirmed.”

But not everyone feels Senator Kerry is the man for the job. Rudy Giuliani told CNN’s Piers Morgan that if he were president he would never select John Kerry.

“People who were in the Hanoi Hilton who were listening to John Kerry attacking American soldiers while being tortured are going to have a very hard time with this.”

A reporter for USA Today points out Senator Kerry has played a large role in Mr. Obama’s rise to presidency.

Kerry picked Obama to give the keynote at the 2004 Democratic National Convention — a speech that launched the President’s national political career. Kerry also endorsed Obama

“ … at a key moment -- after Obama lost the New Hampshire primary to Hillary Rodham Clinton.”

Washington Post columnist David Ignatius says Kerry has several qualities making him a good fit for the position, but he does note one weakness: the lack of a quote “close personal relationship with Obama.”

Ignatius says the two will have to strengthen that relationship if Kerry is selected.
