"Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon is trying new things, and no, we're not talking about moving his weekday work schedule up an hour earlier.

"A crowd gathered in Chicago earlier today to watch 'Tonight Show' host Jimmy Fallon take the polar plunge with Mayor Rahm Emmanuel. ... Water temperature? 30 degrees! That'll get your attention." (Via The Weather Channel)

And from the looks of it, Fallon was freezing. Fallon agreed to do the polar plunge via Twitter. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said he'd go on Fallon's show if Fallon did the plunge. (Via Chicago Sun-Times

The Polar Bear Plunge is an event that raises money for the Special Olympics and involves participants running into frigid Lake Michigan. Not surprisingly, many last just a few seconds, like Fallon himself who emerged from the icy waters visibly shocked. A much warmer and drier Fallon posted this on Instagram saying, "Officially PLUNGED!!!!! Thank you Chicago!!! Thank you Mayor."

Fallon took his post at "The Tonight Show" on NBC earlier this month after Jay Leno walked away for the second time. Fallon previously hosted "The Late Show," which comes on after "The Tonight Show." (Via NBC / "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon")

Mayor Emanuel's visit to Fallon's show has not yet been scheduled. Here's hoping the plunge was worth it.
