Emma Stone is getting her fair share of crazy stupid love this month-- from funny guy Jim Carrey. He shared a video love letter to the 22-year old Easy A star on his blog. The video opens with 49-year-old Carrey gushing over Stone -- calling her “beautiful”, “smart”, and “kind-hearted.” But then-- critics say he got a little creepy.
“If I were a lot younger, I would marry you. We’d have chubby little freckled faced kids. We’d laugh all day long, go camping, play Yahtzee.”
And since the declaration hit the web- there have been several attempts to explain this viral love letter.
An aging expert from the University of Chicago tells MSNBC-- Carrey is displaying signs associated with a male mid-life crisis, saying...
“...for some midlife men, the memory of sex at its best, and the fantasy of having it with new, possibly younger, people... is integral to feeling aroused and sexy”
Mid-life crisis-- or just-- a publicity stunt? Some have speculated the two will soon be a duo in a new flick...
But a Huffington Post blogger doesn’t buy it, saying...
“There's no sign of sarcasm in the video, and according to IMDB, they're not working on any projects together in the near future -- meaning there's no reason to create some sort of secret viral promotion.”
A rep for Carrey reportedly told Access Hollywood that the stunt was “just a joke”, calling the video a “comical love letter.”
But Carrey himself hasn’t been quite so clear. The actor posted the tweet:
“Yes, my msg to Emma Stone was a comedy routine and the funniest part is that everything i said is tru.”
He also responded to questions about the video by tweeting:
"People often ask me if i'm being funny or serious. The answer is YES"
Whether a cry for attention or a creeper’s confession-- the video crashed Carrey’s website shortly after it went live. 48 hours later-- the video had racked up almost 2,000 comments.
The one person not commenting? The apple of his eye. The Daily Mail reports, Stone is passing up the pet detective for another superhero.
The Yes Man star may have to settle for a ‘No’ from Stone, as The Daily Mail reports she was recently spotted enjoying a romantic dinner in Malibu with Spider-Man co-star, Andrew Garfield.
