It seems like we can’t go a New York minute without some mention of Tim Tebow. And now word out of Jets camp is the support behind Tebowmania is taking flight — and it likely isn’t making a return trip. ESPN has the details.

“Several Jets players support Sanchez over Tim Tebow the backup. In fact, one anonymous defensive starter said Tebow is terrible. Guard Matt Slausen added I have all the confidence in Mark, we don’t really have a choice.”

But NBC Sports’ Mike Florio says the notion that Tebow is terrible in practice isn’t exactly news, and while he does have a history of poor practices his late-game results are hard to question.

“He’s been terrible in practice his entire career! … But if you can keep a game close, he works his magic in the fourth quarter.”

Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock looks at the situation as another case of a great college quarterback who just can’t cut it in the pros.

“Many Jets players suggested it would be ridiculous to replace Mark Sanchez with Tebow. Sanchez is arguably the worst starting quarterback in the league. What does that make Tebow? A total media creation.”

During a Wednesday press conference Jets coach Rex Ryan said -- anonymously ripping Tebow is “about as cowardly of a thing as there is.” Yet Ryan later added, “We never brought [Tebow] in to be the starting quarterback … I thought I was clear on that from the day we brought Tim in here.” (Via USA Today)

FInally, a writer for NFL.com believes the eyes of Tebow’s critics are looking to place the blame on the wrong people.

“...perhaps they should instead be questioning the ability of those who decided to bring him to New York. Besides, at least Tebow has only played bad in practice so far. The rest of the team continues to do the same in actual games.”

Tebow and the Jets fly to St. Louis to face the Rams on Sunday.
