Around the world, the new Jackson tribute movie is experiencing incredible success at the box office, but some diehard Jackson fans are upset by the movie. They say the movie falls short of truly telling Michael Jackson’s story.
We are researching the controversy from Billboard, Rolling Stone Magazine, CNN, The Financial Chronicle and Fox News.
First, here are a few headlines on the movies success.
Billboard says “Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' Moonwalks To Top Boxoffice”
Rolling Stone writes- “Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' On Pace to Break Movie Records”
Rediff says- “'This Is It': Most successful film of the year?”
Despite the success at the box office some fans are unhappy with the way the movie was made. CNN has their perspective.
“Some fans don’t care for this movie. In an online campaign against 'This Is It' called 'This Is Not It,’ fans are bashing the movie saying its makers routinely ignored Jackson's drug and health problems. The are really upset that they think the people who probably should have been in the position to help Michael are the ones who are going to make money off of this movie.”
The Indian newspaper, The Financial Chronicle, says the opposite, that the movie did show a struggling Jackson.
"There was a certain sadness associated with the film. MJ trying too hard to keep up with other dancers was sad, because he was the one [who] inspired all of them to dance.”
FOX News says despite the controversy, the movie will be good for Jackson’s legacy, especially as a performer.
“Michael Jackson will emerge from this movie the undisputed legend that he is. Regardless of whatever else goes on in his personal side life, as a performer and as an entertainer, this will return him to the undisputed King of Pop.”
We want to know what you think. Is "This Is It" a fitting tribute to Michael Jackson's life and legacy? Or does it only show one side of his story?
