Jennifer Lopez took a trip down memory lane. Then had a breakdown. On stage.
The singer burst into tears after performing a medley of love songs as dancers recreated famous moments with her former flames Diddy, Ben Affleck and Marc Anthony. (YouTube/JenniferLopezGreece)
So were the tears genuine? Gossip columnist Rob Shuter seems to think so- here is on NBC’s Today.
ROB SHUTER: “So I think she really had a moment. You know, as a performer, I think you get carried away, with the lyrics and the emotion. And I think Jennifer-
HODA KOTB: “So fresh, too. Still.”
ROB SHUTER: “I think Jennifer had a little moment.”
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: “Yeah. I wonder. No, you- we weren’t there. We can only wonder what goes on in a person’s heart and soul at a time like that.”
But some- like this blogger for The Stir- aren’t buying it.
“Even if [the tears] were genuine, what a weird way to entertain people -- to show them all the men you've blown through over the years like a big illuminated brag book of sorts.”
And daytime diva Wendy Williams says she knows a publicity stunt when she sees one.
WENDY WILLIAMS: “Jennifer, why would you do something like that? It was really horrible and immature. Your divorce papers aren’t even signed and plus she's seeing that new guy- Bradley Cooper ... Like, you’re too grown and old and sexy to be doing that. So people are giving her a hard time about flaunting Bradley Cooper when she’s not really divorced, so I think- Jennifer, was this a sympathy vote on stage? You bring out everybody?”
A Fab Life blogger agrees the moment was cringe-worthy, but also pretty brave.
“She’s been through a lot, and though we think it was in poor taste re-enacting her relationships onstage, perhaps she didn’t realize how hard it would hit until it was unfurling in front of her. Chin up, Jen.”
Finally- J.Lo took to Access Hollywood to defend herself.
“The way they received it was very touching. I think they felt what I felt, which is, you know, like, I’m just a girl just like everybody else trying to find my way and I felt like they got that and they understood it and we were all like one at that moment.”
