You’ve got to hand it to Tim Tebow. The former Florida quarterback-turned-Denver Broncos starter is making a name for himself over at Invesco Field. In only his second appearance as quarterback for Denver -- and in his first home start -- Tebow broke the all-time team record for passing -- and carried the Broncos to a win after a terrible first half.
Tebow’s latest performance has many believing -- despite his many detractors -- that he really does have the talent to be a great NFL quarterback. HLN takes a look at what’s got everyone talking.
“This guy is pumping passion a mile high in Denver. The Broncos have been struggling, he made his first home start, he led his team to a come-from-behind win with over 300-yards and two touchdowns to chants of Tebow, Tebow. They love him there. It’s an interesting story because he’s been considered the best college quarterback ever, but a lot of people doubted if he’d be good in the NFL.”
Tebow’s unorthodox style has drawn criticism for what some call, a lack of skill required for an NFL quarterback. But a contributor for Broncos fan blog Predominantly Orange says what Tebow lacks in skill, he makes up for in heart.
“...whatever you say, don’t question the dude’s heart. Down by 17 at home Sunday to Gary Kubiak’s Texans, Tebow simply willed his team to a one-point victory using sketchy passing...his famed legs and what can only be described as desire.”
On ESPN, former NFL linebacker Antonio Pierce says, Tebow has the potential to grow, but it’s going to be a while before he taps into it.
“I’m not saying right now Tim Tebow is a franchise quarterback today. In three or four years we’re gonna be talking about Tim Tebow and the mistakes a lot of teams made on draft day as far as passing him up, because of what he has inside of him -- the intangibles. There’s not a lot of guys that’s winners in the National Football League, and you gotta understand that. You can have a great arm, you can be all this about a certain quarterback, but you gotta be a leader, you gotta raise the level of your peers up, and that’s what this guy does.”
But as The Denver Post reports, it’s not just his peers who had their spirits raised. Fans are stoked too.
“Denver players said the fourth quarter was the loudest and most energized the crowd at Invesco Field has been in years....”
So what do you think? Does Tim Tebow have what it takes to become an NFL star? Or is this just a bad team helping him look better?
