HLN: "It looks like the new GOP pin-up boy may be trying to distance himself from the Tea Parties and Sarah Palin."

Fox News: "Why is he MIA?"

MSNBC: "Whose side is he on? Is Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts a conservative or is he a moderate?"

Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown is in hot water with Tea Parties after declining to attend a rally with Sarah Palin.

That, plus his decision to help Democrats defeat a Republican filibuster in the Senate have led some to accuse Scott Brown of being a RINO—"Republican In Name Only."

An anchor for Fox News says Brown's actions illustrate the difficult position of being a Republican Senator in a traditionally blue state.

"The thing about Scott Brown is he's gotta run for election real soontwo yearsso he's saying, 'wait a second, I understand that I come from the bastion of liberal politics, and I was somewhat of an anomaly, but I gotta keep this job while not alienating others'."

A guest on HLN's Joy Behar Show says the controversy over Brown's actions is indicative of a larger conflict within the GOP.

"It's gonna be a problem for Republicans across the country...The Republicans' dilemma at this point is how to embrace the good part of the Tea Party, the aspects of it and that is, that's where the passion is in politics right now."

On his web site "The Natural Truth," Tea Party activist Michael Graham says political strategizing aside, Brown should have attended the Tea Party rally to show a little gratitude.

"Stopping by this national event and saying 'thanks' is smart...The voters of Massachusetts didn’t know a lot about Scott Brown when they voted for him in January, but they took a chance on him.  He needs to show a little faith in them, too."

But a reporter for MSNBC says although the Tea Party claims responsibility for Brown's election, he never promised them much to begin with.

"From the beginning, when Scott Brown was elected, Alex, he's always said he was going to vote Massachusetts first, the Republican Party second.  He made no qualms about that at all, that's what he said from the beginning."

A blogger for the Boston Phoenix says Scott Brown's reason for declining to attend the rally is actually quite simple: he had to work.

"The Senate just returned from recess and Brown actually has work to do. The Armed Services Committee he serves on has hearings...one of his subcommittees has hearings...You would think folks would like for Brown to attend."

So is Scott Brown a conservative, a moderate or a RINO?  And does it really matter?
