As Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan makes her rounds on Capital Hill to meet with key senators, rumors of her sexuality continue to swirl in the blogosphere and many are questioning why it even matters.
A writer for Mediaite says Kagan's sexual orientation should not be an issue.
"There are much much bigger issues to be worried about than who Kagan loves. Shouldn’t people be more concerned about her views on the First Amendment or executive power than whether she’s attended a Lillith Fair?"
And according to a report by MSNBC, those closest to Kagan seem to agree.
"As to whether Elana Kagan is gay, they at the White House feel that has no part in the discourse. By the way, they say that she says and her friends say she isn't gay. They don't consider it an issue relevant to the Supreme Court nomination process."
But one blogger for the Rightly Concerned says sexual conduct says a lot about character.
"It's time we got over the myth that what a public servant does in his private life is of no consequence. We cannot afford to have another sexually abnormal individual in a position of important civic responsibility. The stakes are too high."
But The View's Elisabeth Hasselbeck says Kagan's nomination is empowering.
"I do believe that this is great for women, I'll be able to show Grace, look, we have strong women out there, she's an athlete, she's a woman, she's now on the Supreme Court ... I don't necessarily think it matters if she doesn't apply it to how she's going to form opinions behind the bench."
