Sky Sports analyst Graeme Souness says Tevez is an example of how one bad apple can destroy an entire team.
“He’s a disgrace to football. The man in the street thinks there’s a lot wrong with your modern footballer. He epitomizes what the man in the street thinks about modern footballers.”
The 27-year-old is currently serving a two-week suspension imposed by the club. But if it were up to Man City manager Roberto Mancini, Tevez would already have his bags packed. Mancini expressed his frustration to BBC after Tuesday’s match.
MANCINI: “He wanted to leave last year. I helped him for two years every time and he refused to go in and I think that is strange.”
REPORTER: “Do you want him to stay?”
Mancini: “Sorry?”
REPORTER: “Do you want him to stay?”
MANCINI: “No. No, no.”
And City fans have seen enough. A Sky Sports reporter says Tevez has turned his back on the club and the fans one too many times.
“I think if you ask them, they’re simply fed up with it. I think you know you look in the calendar year, you’ve had two opportunities for Carlos Tevez to pledge his allegiance to Manchester City. Well, on two occasions he’s put in transfer requests and said he doesn’t want to play for Manchester City. This perhaps the third thing is the straw that broke the camel’s back as far as the fans are concerned with Carlos Tevez.”
Man City acquired Tevez in 2009 for more than 47 million pounds and since then, he’s scored more Premier League goals than anyone else, with 43. A Northern Echo writer says Tevez is too good to let go without getting anything in return.
“...Why should City hand him back his registration and watch one of their rivals poach him for nothing? And make no mistake, there would still be plenty of takers despite this week’s events.”
That rival team might be West Ham, who expressed an interest in bringing Tevez back to Upton Park. One Yahoo! Sport writer says City only has itself to blame for the mess it’s in.
“The club are now paying the price for the arrogant way in which they behaved over the transfer window, slapping absurd fees on the head of the Argentine with money absolutely no object, effectively mocking him in the process.”
