“Iran claims it successfully test-fired a new advanced medium-range missile, President Amfjddf says its range is about 2,000 km, far enough to reach Israel or southern Europe. Now, That announcement comes just two days after President Barack Obama declared his readiness to seek harsher international sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program.” (Russia Today)

The news has Israeli media sources Haaretz and Jersusalem Post in an uproar, including this headline banner titled, “The Iranian Threat,” while Iranian sources Islamic Republic News Agency and PressTV focus instead on other stories, namely accounts of Israeli injustice towards Palestinians.

PressTV brings the Iranian state perspective on the missile test and says it’s about peace and stability.

“President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the missile was produced in line with Tehran's ‘deterrence policy’.
‘Our progress in this field is solely aimed at establishing peace and stability in the region. This technology will only be used against an enemy with ill intentions,’ he explained.”

The Jerusalem Post looked ahead at what is worrying Israel and the West: when will Iran have nuclear capabilities?  Though a report by the EastWest Institute estimates it will be five years before Iran can produce a nuclear warhead…

“Iran had produced 1,010 kilograms of low-enriched uranium which would be enough for one bomb if it were converted to highly enriched uranium.”

Haaretz reports that Israel is prepared to address that nuclear concern:

“An Israeli official said on Tuesday that Israel will be forced to take on Iran's contentious nuclear program alone once U.S. President Barack Obama's overture for dialogue with Tehran fails.”

The head of the CIA gave the counterview from the U.S. – saying it’s about a unified effort to deal with Iran:

“if Israel were to independently attack Iran it would lead to “big trouble.’” And that “Israel's security would be better served if the government worked together with international powers to curb the threat.”
