Iranian officials are claiming they’ve shot down a US drone that was violating their airspace. Fox News has more.

“An Iranian military source saying that drone was downed they say with minimal damage. There’s no confirmation about this from the United States military...This amid the backdrop of the Iranian nuclear facilities and its continued defiance of UN resolutions."

Iran has made these sorts of claims before, so why all the fuss over one downed drone? US military officials have confirmed a drone went missing, but say it wasn’t shot down. An analyst for CNN says Iran might be embellishing the story, but they could still have a more-or-less intact drone on their hands.

"They believe that this may have been the drone that the Iranians are talking about. They also say that the crew operating the unmanned drone had reported a loss of flight control and ability to guide the drone and that it drifted.[FLASH] If the Iranians are telling the truth about the one they have their hands on, it’s called the Sentinel. It’s a stealth drone. It’s one of the most classified pieces of technology in the US intelligence arsenal."

Regardless of whether the drone was shot down or simply picked up, the Islamic Republic News Agency says Iran is getting fired up.

“[An informed military official states] this is a clear example of aggression on Iran’s borders, he added that Iranian armed forces are fully ready to counter any aggression.”
