Mulling over that IOS5 update for your iDevice?
Well, be forewarned.
Some early adopters are running into a few issues with the update. The Inquirer explains.
“When I updated my Iphone on Thursday, I did so without backing up the content. … When the update had finished, I tried to restore the content, only to find that the original backup of all my photos, contacts and other files had failed before the IOS 5 upgrade, and so my Iphone was completely wiped.”
And that particular writer’s predicament doesn’t seem to be an isolated case. The Washington Post reports that iDevice update issues have become a bit of an international incident.
“Taking to Twitter, Facebook and Apple’s support forums, users reported that their phones and tablets had been wiped — or worse, bricked. So many people were having problems with the update that the upgrading error message, “error 3200,” nabbed a spot as a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.”
But breathe easy gadget geeks, according to writers at Appolicious once you’ve overcome the initial terror of losing all of your data, restoring it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.
“...because iTunes backs up your iPhone every time you plug it in, it shouldn’t be too hard to restore it to the condition it was in just a little while ago. If it doesn’t happen automatically, you can click ‘Restore from Backup’ or just the ‘Sync’ button to get the process going.”
And writers at GottaBeMobile addthat, iCloud, a new feature with IOS5 can also locate your AWOL apps.
“To download your apps from the iTunes App Store again … Tap on the Purchased Tab at the bottom of the App Store. … When you find the app you want, you just need to touch the little cloud icon with a down arrow to download it. You won’t be charged for the app again...”
And according to Recombu, your apps may not be gone at all — they’re just not where you left them.
“...because iOS 5 gives you a few new app icons for things like Newsstand, Music and Videos, we found a lot of our icons moved over to other homescreens. Initially we panicked … only to notice that the icons had been automatically scrolled off to the side and dumped onto another screen.”
Finally, if you’re still stuck, PCWorld proposes one final fix.
“If all else fails, you can click on the "Summary" tab under your device settings in iTunes, then click ‘restore.’ You'll see a dialog box that allows you to pick from a previous restore point. Choose a date prior to installing iOS5 … This will take you back to the way things were.”
