A group of Illinois politicians wants to give driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
Here’s WQAD.

“That would allow immigrants to get a temporary license for three years. The idea is that since so many are already on the roads with no training, the license would get them into a driver’s ed classroom and get them insured.”

The group of politicians supporting the proposal is from both sides of the aisle and include the state governor and the Chicago mayor.
But the proposed law has its opponents.
Here’s WREX.

“If we continue to give rights of citizenship to those who have illegal immigrant status, my concern then is what is the purpose of becoming a citizen.”

Lawmakers say there’s about 250,000 undocumented immigrants on Illinois roads.
They also believe more than 40 percent of deadly crashes in their state involve unlicensed drivers.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, the proposal will likely be voted on sometime between now and early January.

New Mexico and Washington already require illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses.
