If your first tablet doesn’t succeed, try, try again, right? That’s what HP is thinking, announcing it will make over its underachieving Slate 500 tablet. Slash Gear explains.
“HP is returning to its Windows stomping grounds with the Slate 2, a refreshed model with some tweaks more appropriate for touch and pen-based input.”
So what tweaks are we talking about? According to Electric Pig...
“The design of the Slate 2 is barely different to the Slate 500. But the under the hood you’ll find a beefed up 64GB solid state drive, a nippier Intel Atom processor and battery life that kicks on to around six hours.”
But Engadget is not impressed, saying....
“...there's nothing much to see here -- it's the same 8.9-inch tablet that's been on sale for the past year. Only this time, HP added Swype, refreshed the CPU...and proffered a smaller 32GB SSD option to appease the IT guys”
But Extreme Tech notes-- after learning a hard lesson with the Slate 500, HP has changed its entire marketing plan.
“HP is not targeting the everyday consumer with this tablet PC — remember that they are shifting their focus into the business market. … You won’t hear anyone getting up to say that it’s an iPad killer this time, they at least learned that much.”
Finally, how will HP’s newest tablet offering fair? Writer’s at Mashable say....eh....
“The Slate 2 probably won’t make a big ripple in the market, as Windows 7 was never a great OS for tablets, which is visible from the minute market share of Windows-based devices in the tablet market.”
