The third time really is the charm.
After failing twice before, the Olympic winter games are finally coming to South Korea.

“The 2018 Winter Olympics will take place in Pyeongchang after the South Korean city won an overwhelming victory in a vote by international Olympic Committee members in Durban on Wednesday.” (euronews)

Pyeongchang tried to land the Olympics in both 2010 and 2014, but was beaten out by Munich, Germany, and Annecy, France.
When it came to the 2018 games - it earned 63 of 95 Olympic committee votes.

According to CNBC
, Pyeongchang’s success was due to its preparation.

“They have already started constructing the Olympic Stadium. They have built seven since their last bid. They’re already working on a ski village. They’ve already started building a ski jump tower. Again, so prepared that no matter what they did they were very skilled at not only pitching the IOC but had all the assets the IOC was looking for.”

The Telegraph has a promotional video the Korean city created for the cause.

But promotion and preparation aside, The Stir says -- South Korea had a secret weapon to put Pyeongchang over the top. Native ice-skater Kim Yu-na. (You-Nah)

“...Kim Yu-na is ... like a LeBron James or a Derek Jeter in her home country. In South Korea, Yu-na hosts her own reality show... She's closing in on half a million Facebook fans and has lucrative endorsement deals with Samsung and Hyundai... Coming out of the 2010 Winter Games, she was the best paid Olympian. Period.”

NBC Universal reports, Korea will become the eighth nation to host both a summer and winter Olympics, alongside, Russia, the U.S., Canada, Japan, France, Italy and Germany.
