Two games, two quarterbacks down and out for the Houston Texans.
Matt Schaub and backup Matt Leinart are done for the year and now the AFC’s number one seed is in big trouble. Texans coach Gary Kubiak must choose between rookie T.J. Yates or journeyman Kellen Clemens. A writer for the Houston Chronicle says neither quarterback is a viable option.
“You don’t give a scrub off the street the keys to your Ferrari. While Yates wouldn’t be the first choice of many to take the wheel either, he has such a head start on anybody who has been sitting at home watching games on television all season that he is the logical choice to handle the position … for now.”
Not exactly confident words there. So if the Texans can’t count on Yates or Clemens, is it time to bring in a seasoned veteran? An analyst from NBC Sports says this talented Houston team is suited for a leader with playoff experience.
“It’s a simple offense--they run the ball, they run the ball, they run the ball. They pass the ball short, they throw it up deep once in a while to Andre Johnson. They rely on their defense. It’s simple, it’s simple. You can get a veteran ready and that’s what they need to do.”
Let’s see...Veteran quarterback...Playoff experience...Super Bowl winner. ESPN’s Skip Bayless says it’s time for the Texans to dial up old number four. Here we go again.
“If I am interested in winning the Super Bowl this year, I’m bringing the circus to town. And I said it two weeks ago and the had a bye week of course in between. Bring the circus to town. Bring Brett Favre to town.”
Houston continues to battle the injury bug. They’ve done all season long with key players Arian Foster and Andre Johnson on and off the injured list. A writer from Fox Sports says these resilient Texans have successfully rolled with the punches.
“The situation is dire, and yet, it isn't. The Texans are in deep trouble, and yet they are tied for the best record in the AFC. The Texans are an amoeba. Poke them here, pull some away there, and they just reform into a new shape and keep existing, keep thriving.”
