Congress has finally agreed on something to do with jobs--Which has the media asking-- is this a move toward compromise? Or a move too small to matter? WTTG has more on the announcement out of Washington.

“A rare display of bipartisanship in the U.S. House as the Republican-lead body passes a small element of the president’s jobs bill: The repeal of the three percent withholding tax on government contractors.”

MSNBC explains the allure behind the tax repeal and why it attracted support from both sides of the aisle.

“It was a tax that would essentially say the government would have to hold back three percent of whatever they would pay government contractors because over time they felt government contractors were not taxing themselves properly. This is a tax that a lot of small business didn’t like, it was in president Obama’s jobs plan bill to repeal this tax specifically, Republicans jumped on it.”

The New York Times explains while the move was a step in the right direction, it’s far from a big accomplishment. The reporter argues the House could have focused its energy on improving entitlement programs or addressing fraud and abuse.

That a bill repealing a never-implemented requirement on a fairly small number of businesses was celebrated like a hometown team just back from winning the World Series underscores just how big small accomplishments really are these days in Washington...”

But the Hill reports, the bill’s passage helped boost Team Red’s image.

“The GOP bolstered its argument that while Republicans are passing legislation to help the economy, Obama and Democrats in the Senate have been unable to move jobs legislation. They also provided a good counter-argument to Obama, who has been criss-crossing the country slamming Republicans for obstructing his jobs bill.”

So with this big-- or small---accomplishment under its belt-- what’s next for the House? CBS reports what Speaker John Boehner has his sights set on.

“Boehner...said the Congress should focus on what the House GOP is calling its "forgotten 15" -- 15 House-passed bills the GOP says would stimulate the economy.”

The repeal on the withholding tax now moves on to the Senate where it is expected to pass.
