Talk about tacky.
A postgame handshake turned ugly in Ohio last Friday when a high school football player placed a tack in his glove after his team’s victory.
WBNS reports the 16-year-old student injured more than two-dozen opponents, forcing all of them to receive tetanus shots.
“As you can see from these pictures of the hands of two unidentified players, it left the same pin-sized prick on 27 different players. Investigators say the injuries are not serious, but there is a real threat.”
A blogger for The Huffington Post echos the majority of media opinions, saying...
“This is poor sportsmanship at its finest.”
And it turns out-- the player accused of the tacky trick wasn’t even allowed to play in the game. He was deemed ineligible, and watched the 26-0 blowout from the bench. A Yahoo sports blogger says that’s what makes this kid’s actions so appalling.
“That any player would inflict damages requiring vaccinations against unsuspecting victims is gross and disturbing. That the player didn't even play any part in the contest itself may make the hurtful handshakes even more upsetting.”
According to the Wilmington News Journal, the student was kicked off the team on Thursday. While one parent thought it was a bad attempt at a joke, a fellow student tells WCMH the player should have thought twice about his actions.
PARENT: “I think it’s just they thought it would be funny.”
STUDENT: “I think it’s stupid and very silly and I don’t understand why anyone would have any incentive to do that, because we lost any way.”
Wilmington News Journal reports the player’s mom has hired an attorney to defend him-- but no word yet on whether anyone has pressed charges.
