Sick of your neighbors? Well-- just advertise their illegal activity! One Oregon neighborhood did just that when they distributed “heroin for sale” fliers that led police to a drug bust. KATU has the story.

“They passed these door to door with a house address right there and the homeowners names at the bottom. They wanted the accused dealers to know that what they were doing was not a secret. The unusual tactic sure got the attention of police.”

Neighbors had noticed a constant flow of “shady” individuals for years. KPTV explains-- the lack of police action prompted them to take matters into their own hands.

“The investigations took almost a year. It took that long for Sergeant Birkinbine and his team to build up their case. He credits neighbors who took it upon themselves to start jotting down license plate information and some neighbors even took surveillance pictures of suspected drug activity.”

When police raided the home, they found 20 grams of marijuana, 10 grams of heroin, 190 pills, a small meth lab, thousands of dollars in cash, and...a sawed-off shotgun. MSNBC reports on the reaction Sgt. Birkinbine (Burr-kin-bine) and his team received after the raid.

"They came out smiling; they were happy to see us. A lady brought a bucket full of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies to us to tell us thank you. We felt like firefighters for a few minutes."

The neighbors may have been overjoyed, but some in the community didn’t exactly let the police off the hook for their delayed arrival.

MSNBC reporter Mark Stevenson posted the story to his Facebook and received comments like these...

Suanne Burk: “Even with the flyer it took over a year for the investigation to lead to arrests...”
Leslie Lynne Easterling: “...once again citizens had to do the investigating to get the pd to do their job.....theyd get no cookies from me”

Whether the bust was overdue or not-- a reporter for The Oregonian notes-- neighbors are just glad it’s over.

“As the occupants were being led away in handcuffs by police, [one of the neighbors] Christie Casey said she yelled, ‘It’s about time!’”

Seven adults were inside the home during the bust, and six were arrested. The last, a teenager, was placed in protective custody.
