During the final round of the world golf championships at Firestone Country Club, Tiger Woods trailed by one shot with three holes to play.

Needing a birdie on 16 to put the pressure on, Woods hit this incredible 8 iron from 182 yards over the water and within 10 inches of the hole, to take the lead.

Woods went on to win his 70th PGA tournament and 5th of the season. The career milestone for Woods has people questioning, again, is he the best golfer ever?

The New York Examiner compares Tigers career achievements at his age to the games all-time greats.

“Only two other golfer have won that many times on the PGA Tour; Jack Nicklaus won 73 and claimed his 70th at the age of 40, while "Slammin" Sam Snead won 82 times and secured his 70th at the age of 41.  Tiger Woods is 33.”

Real Clear Sports examined in depth the topic of the best golfer ever and compared the only viable candidates Jack Nicklaus, 18 majors, and Tiger Woods, 14 majors.

If Tiger breaks Nicklaus’ record will he automatically be considered the best-ever? RealClearSports, says not necessarily, and notes a flaw on Woods’ resume.

“[There is] one glaring weakness etched on Woods' ledger - namely that Tiger has never come from behind to win at a major...[Meanwhile] Nicklaus came back to win majors on eight occasions...[Nicklaus] also nabbed the second place trophy 19 times at the majors, a feat that will likely never be overtaken. [So far, Woods has only 5 runner-ups.] ”

And even with Woods’ success this year, Bob Harig, a golf analyst for ESPN says that Tiger and his critics measure his success only by Major Championships wins.

“If he doesn’t win a major championship consider it a lost season for Tiger Woods.  That’s what’s on the line this week at the PGA Championship, and that’s why they call it “glory’s last shot.”

Woods hasn’t won a major since the 2008 US Open when he won with a torn ACL and a double stress fracture in his left knee.

Do you think Tiger Woods will win the PGA Championship this weekend?  Will he wind up being known as the best golfer ever?
