Israeli officials say Hamas may have rockets that could hit its nuclear reactor in Dimona.

We’re following coverage of Hamas’s weapon capabilities from FOX, The Times Online, PBS’s News Hour and CNN.

FOX details where Hamas’s reach.

“The perception in Israel and the reality really is that these rockets are flying further than ever before, getting closer and closer to cities that weren’t threatened in years past from rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.” (FOXNEWS)

In an article titled ‘Gaza rockets put Israel’s nuclear plant in battle zone’ The Times Online writes there is growing concern in Israel over the range of Hamas’s new weapons.

“It is only a matter of time before the nuclear installation at Dimona, 20 miles east of Be’er Sheva, falls within its [Hamas’s] sights. Dimona houses Israel’s only nuclear reactor and is believed to be where nuclear warheads are stored.” (Times Online)

The Times Online adds Iran has played its part in the attacks on Israel. Hamas has acquired dozens of long-range missiles from Iran, called Fajr-3 missiles.

The News Hour talks to an Israeli Defense Official who says Israel always expected Hamas would obtain longer-range rockets, and believes Hamas got hold of them during the recent ceasefire.

“These grad rockets, which are a type of katyusha rocket being fired on Be’er  Sheva and other towns direct to Israel. They’re not manufactured in Gaza. They’ve been smuggled through the border.” (NEWSHOUR)

The Hamas-run Palestinian Information Center wrote in an article titled, ‘Resistance preparing surprises for IOF’, that Hamas is ready to retaliate on the quote Zionist enemy.

“One of the political leaders of the Hamas Movement in Gaza Strip, has underlined that Palestinian resistance was still capable to strike and was preparing “surprises” for the Israeli occupation forces.”(PIC)

Hamas’s acquirement of these new weapons means three quarters of a million Israelis could fall victim to one of Hamas’s surprise attacks. CNN’s Paula Hancock reports Israel is struggling to protect its people.

“It is ideal conditions, we’ve seen for Hamas. They are firing rockets further in to Israel and certainly doing it easily and undetected with low cloud cover. It’s very hard for the Israeli drones to be able to spot these rocket launchers when it is conditions like this.” (CNN)

Do you think Hamas will hurt Israel’s nuclear capabilities? Do you think Iran could have supplied Hamas with newer, better weapons?

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the story and please check out our sources.
