A Palestinian official close to the negotiation between Hamas militants and Israel tells Reuters the two sides have agreed to a truce. That’s after Hamas fired rockets into Israel despite a cease-fire plea from a top Hamas official. Fox News reports- that plea was from politicians- not military officials.

Leland: “Jamie this ceasefire offering came from the political wing of Hamas, but the military wing of Hamas and some of the more radical splinter groups inside Gaza don't appear as though they want to stop the rocketeering just yet.”

The dispute started on Friday when a Hamas tank missile critically injured an Israeli child when it hit a school bus. That set the Israelis off -- 120 Israeli rockets have killed 18 people since Friday. (Video from The Telegraph).

A Y Net News writer says Hamas has underestimated just how much payback would be in store.

“...Gaza’s terrorists are again finding themselves dumbfounded, confused and outmatched as the house of cards they attempted to build collapses right before their very eyes.”

A Hamas website the ceasefire began Sunday and the 10 rockets fired into Israel that day came from militants who disagreed with the truce. While both Haaretz and the Jerusalem Post reported the cease-fire agreement---Israel gave no official confirmation. A Palestine Note blogger said both sides deserve blame for the latest round of fighting.

“The political and military leadership of both Hamas and Islamic Jihad are reckless and stupid.”

Now, Israel also is facing wider problems. Haaretz.com, quoting Wikileaks, says Hezbollah militants in Lebanon are prepared to launch hundreds of missles a day into Israel.

Israel expects the next war against Hezbollah will last two months, during which 24,000 to 36,000 rockets and missiles are expected to be launched at Israel.”

To defend against attacks---Israel has set up an Iron Dome system to shoot down enemy rockets. The Israeli Defense Ministry says it shot down rockets Hamas launched toward southern Israel on both Thursday and Friday. (Video from Jerusalem Post)
