Being apolitical, still I feel some responcibility toward my Conservatives belief's, and to stick up for the (real) Grand Old Party, if not a small number of those that represented "We the prople."
That the GOP was taken over by a very fascist element was obvious. Perhaps I am the only person that remembers the remnant of the GOP running their Presidential candidate beginning 1998 whose name was John McCain, until the PNAC-fascist tooks over with their mantra as stated by Richard Cheney in their PNAC-website saying, "The Conservatives failed to do this, the Conservatives failed to do that, and the Conservatives failed also... but WE PLAN to CHANGE THIS."
The GOP is not looking for leadership, what the GOP needs do is remove the hierarchy or upper-level that sold out to fascists.

The GOP will as surely make a comeback in 2012 as the British did in 1812. And, if you're a Republican, the beauty of it all is they won't even need ideas. Unlike the Democrats, who are perennially held to a higher standard, the GOP has proved time and again that in order to achieve political primacy they don't need ideas as much as Talking Points that revolve around gay marriage, prayer in the schools, stem cell research and what other hood ornament issues that'll excite their pork rind-crunching base. They're the latter day No Nothing Party and they actually pride themselves on their ignorance. Let's see the Democrats try to run on THAT platform.

Dems or Reps...matters only in the media. What matters is big government or government in its rightful place. Read our founding documents and determine for yourself where our country is currently at. The reading is amazingly important and historical. If followed would get us out of the mess we've created with a government that is entirely too big. Cali is wonderful example of how big government cannot be successful long-term. They have NO money...yet they can't imagine giving up the vast social programs they've created during better times. Another great example is Texas...balanced budget...not bankrupt...should be the standard for all our States.

The more the Republican Party tries to emulate its Democratic rivals, the more irrelevant it will become. Regan was the last really successful Republican because he was both an excellent communicator and a true conservative. A strong conservative message combined with great leadership skills and unquestionable integrity will yield another successful Republican candidate at some point. It remains to be seen how far in the future that will be, as there are few who appear up to the task presently.

The GOP will probably make a comeback in the next decade, though whether or not it will be built on social or economic policy remains to be seen; personally the latter makes a lot more sense. While the country has shifted to the middle, it seems like most of our politicians have shifted to the extremes.

I don't think conservatives are going to suddenly switch to another party, but perhaps the far extremist right is dwindling since those are the views typically held by our grandparents and are possibly old fashioned and not realistic in politics today. I do think more and more politicians must cater more to the middle of the road instead of to either extreme.

I don't think the GOP is on the path to extinction. Obviously, there has been a lot of negative publicity coming from them. But there are still a lot of serious Republicans. Romney may be a good choice. They really need a great leader - or a leader at all - right now.

I think the only option is Romney, especially in times like these Romney is just the economist that we need. In my opinion he would have had a better shot at beating Obama than McCain if he would have been the choice last year once the economy tanked.
