When Google TV came out a year ago, it left people Googling how to watch it. But now Google TV 2.0---is more user friendly. GigaOM’s Cord Cutters has the details.
“If you want to access all of your content, then there’s an easy way to access all of your content as well.”
“And what we had with V1 was Search, and we’ve improved Search to make this even easier, where if I want to find a very specific movie, we’re gonna help you find it.”
“The third area is really how do we make the web experience feel more like television?”
“This time I’m going to type in ‘Karmin’, which is a YouTube star and pretty quickly I can find a video that’s of interest to me and right away, it’s going to show up on my television.”
After getting the green light last year, Google TV flopped after sales of Logitech Revue, which runs Google TV software, went under. Now, taking a U-turn, Google TV is trying to create it own mobile phone apps. Gadgetbox says it might not go smoothly for Google.
“The biggest accomplishment for Google TV 2.0 is to have a working Android Market in place. The apps are filtered for their TV friendliness. That means, at launch, there are something like 1,800 apps that automatically are offered to Google TV users, and way way more to come. It also means that many available apps are not optimized for TV, and will have lower resolution than you're gonna want.”
Having an app system maybe great news for TV lovers, but what good is TV without any TV programming. According to TechSpot, there might not be an app for that.
“For now, the biggest question remains if Google can finally reel in wary content partners. If you recall, last year several major TV networks and streaming video providers like Hulublocked their contentfrom playing on Google TV in a move to avoid cannibalizing their subscription business model."
TechSpot also notes Google is “reportedly working with select partners now, such as HBO, and plans to work with more in the future but no specific deals have been announced.”
