If you’re gonna spend 98 seconds on Google today-- try clicking on the main page’s Doodle.
In honor of the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, the company put together a minute-and-a-half custom animation featuring the song ‘Don’t Stop Me Now.’
“I’m floating around in ecstasy, so don’t stop me now.”
Mr. Farenheit’s birthday was technically September 5th - but U.S. users didn’t get a gander at the animation until the 6th because of Labor Day.
California’s KNTV spoke with the creator-- who did plenty homework to come up with the video.
“Doodler Jennifer Hom was the brains behind the elaborate doodle, which was a team effort. She and other illustrators spent about three months putting the whole thing together. They even studied a bunch of old Queen albums and videos to pick out visual cues.”
A writer for NBC’s Digital Life says-- as far as Doodles go-- this one’s pretty spectacular-- and not just because of the animation.
“Google Doodles have become so commonplace, it takes a lot to make one stand out. Well, today, pay attention ... Say whatever you will about Queen's kitsch factor, and no offense to the softer-voiced male singers out there ... but Mercury's voice was loud, proud and powerful.”
And Joonbug says-- it leaves the audience wanting more.
“It’s one of Queen’s most upbeat and celebratory songs--really suiting for a birthday. The video is adorable and funny, making tons of references to other Queen songs and even the movies that made them even more popular. The animation is both colorful and cool. It's enough to make fans want a video game of Freddie Mercury's space adventures.”
Mercury died in 1991, just one day after publicly announcing his battle with HIV/AIDS.

And Google invited Queen bandmate Brian May to pen a tribute on the company’s official blog, where he writes...
“He devoured life. He celebrated every minute. And, like a great comet, he left a luminous trail which will sparkle for many a generation to come.”
Mercury’s tribute is Google’s second-longest Doodle, outlasted only by the one for Charlie Chaplin.
