Google images redesigned its search layout — it says — to better suit its users’ needs, including up to a thousand images on one page.
We’re analyzing coverage from CNBC, the Telegraph, e-Strategy Internet Marketing Blog and Web Pro News.
CNBC interviewed the Google’s Vice President of Search who pointed out the pros of this revamp.
“... It’s a great new experience. So we’re always trying to change the interaction. We’re also always working on comprehensiveness, how can we include the newest, most interesting content from the web. So, we’ve included real-time updates from things like Twitter, so we’re always really excited to be exploring that. And just generally understanding what our users want more, what their intent is, and what they’re looking for.”
The Telegraph quotes Google Images’ product manager saying Google Images’ growth contributes to the redesign.
“...We realized that for many searches, the best answer wasn’t text — it was an image or a set of images. The service has grown quite a bit since then. In 2001, we indexed around 250 million images. By 2005, we had indexed over 1 billion. And today, we have an index of over 10 billion images.”
Along with these features, e-Strategy Internet Marketing Blog reports that Google also launched Image Search Ads.
“…lastly, they’ve added on Image search, so for Google image search ads, you can actually place ads in the image search results that include photographs or graphics in the ad itself.”
While many like the new layout, Web Pro News writer says this redesign is just Google’s way of copying Bing’s image search page.
“...I just find it interesting that while Google is the far superior engine in market share AND results, it is playing catch-up with Bing in how it presents itself. It's not the end of the world, but it does seem like a hat-tip from Google to Microsoft, which is just not natural...”
So what do you think of the new Google image search?
