From web browsing to wind power...things are getting a bit greener at Google. Cedar Rapid’s KGAN has the details.
“Internet giant Google is investing in an Iowa wind farm. Its $75 million investment gives the company a stake in the Ropey Wind Farm in Greene County.”
The farm, which produces enough electricity to power 15,000 homes, is about 130 miles from one of Google’s data centers. And an investment like this isn’t a first for Google-- just two years ago, it entered into a deal with NextEra Energy Resources to purchase energy from another Iowa wind farm. (Via KCRG, SmartPlanet)

A writer at Risk.net explains that as Google has expanded from a small startup to the multibillion dollar company is is today, so has its energy consumption.
“Google’s growing power needs are somewhat uncomfortable for the firm. Google prides itself on its socially responsible and environmentally friendly image.... Consequently, Google has made an ambitious push into renewable energy.”
Google shut down its initiative aimed at finding ways of reducing renewable energy costs last year.
